Video Inspiration Research
Inspiration for Filming and Editing:
Grimes - REALITI Music Video:
Gucci Pre-Fall 2017 Campaign: Soul Scene:
SUMMER LOOKBOOK: Outfits of the Week (Neens):
> I took inspiration for the filming and editing of our video from all 3 of these videos as they all have elements of a YouTube / D.I.Y filmed video which is the style we want for out video to keep up our casual and candid theme.
> The Grimes music video especially is very D.I.Y as it looks as it is filmed on either a phone or a simple camera and she directed and edited the video herself.
> We want to incorporate shots of our locations and objects rather than just myself and my brother, and cut between the different locations, similarly to how in the Grimes video there are shots of the road and walking down the street.
> We also want to include editing techniques that have been used in the Grimes video such as quick cuts from one clip to another, a series of short clips playing one after the other and a mixture of short and long clips.
> We also took inspiration from the Gucci Pre-Fall 2017 campaign video, which is actually based around Northern Soul as it starts with the camera following a couple walking and there are multiple shots of the models not looking at the camera as if its not there, and so we want to produce shots like this to have a candid feel to the video.
> We want to use filming and editing techniques that have been used in Neens video such as panning up and down outfits to show the styling and the details.
> She also includes transitions such as fading to black or white which creates a smooth transition from one clip to another, which is a technique we also want to include to contrast the shots we want that will quickly cut from one to another.
> Another editing effect that we like is where Neens plays two clips at the same time with one on top of another smaller to create a second background to the smaller clip.
Other Effects:
> Other effects that we want to use in our video include:
- GIFs
- Replays
- Sped up clips
- Opacity and overlay
- Playing clips upside down or flipped
- Playing the same clip in two different boxes with one smaller than the other placed on top of the larger clip.
