Photoshoot/Filming Location Research

As explored in our initial ideas mind map, my partner and I thought that shooting in independent stores and around street art in Sheffield as, to us, they embody street style in Sheffield.

Vintage Clothing Stores:

 Mooch Vintage & Vulgar



> For my personal style I like to incorporate pieces I have found in vintage clothing stores.
> My favourite in Sheffield are Mooch Vintage and Vulgar.
> Mooch sell a lot of seventies items and so this has a link with original Northern Soul itself.
> Vulgar has a bright pink exterior and so I think this would create a good backdrop for the photo/video shoot.

Bear Tree Records:


> I think that Bear Tree Records would be a good location for filming as it has a very interesting interior with rough/raw wooden floors, shelving and boxes.
> We could include records from the 60s, 70s and 80s or Northern Soul records in the video to show subtle hints to Northern Soul or artists from Sheffield to link to Sheffield.

> Sheffield has some great pieces of street art around where I live/eat/shop and so they really make Sheffield, Sheffield to me and so I think they would be great to include in our photo/video shoot.
> The colours and intricacy of the art will also make for an interesting backdrop.

The concept of the shoot is a brother and sister visiting their favourite locations and stores in and around Sheffield to showcase family, whilst including references to Northern Soul and Sheffield street style through the places we visit and the garments we wear. As the brother and sister in the shoot is going to be myself and my brother we are going to visit our favourite street art locations as they are a big element of Sheffield and why we like the city. We are also going to visit our favourite vintage stores, Mooch Vintage and Vulgar Vintage as we both personally love to source our fashion from vintage stores and this is also a big trend around Sheffield and Sheffield street style and a popular trend in general. We are also going to visit Bear Tree Records as my brother in particular likes to collect music on records and we can include Northern Soul music references from here.

What does Northern Soul & Sheffield street style mean to me? > Before this project I had only heard the term 'Northern Soul' but never knew what it was or what it meant. > After researching the subculture the aspect of Northern Soul that stuck out to me the most was that everyone that was involved in the scene said that it felt like a family to them. > To me, Sheffield has meant family as my brother lived in Sheffield before I did so I always associated Sheffield with seeing him. > Therefore my brother and I are going to feature in the video and the photoshoot to convey this theme of family.
